“Origin of Species” Team Outreach
On November 19th, eighteen brethren gathered for the Origin of Species Team Outreach. The brethren met at Einstein Bagels on Maryland Parkway across from the UNLV campus. The goal of this outreach was to hand out 1,000 free copies of the book, “Origin of Species.” This was a special 150th Anniversary Edition of the book that contained an introduction by evangelist, Ray Comfort. The introduction showed how Charles Darwin came to the theory of evolution, the lack of scientific support for evolution, evolution’s ne-gative influences, the evidence of God’s creation, and finally God’s plan of salvation through Jesus Christ.
After prayer, the individuals split into three groups and headed to the UNLV campus. Each group received about 320 books to pass out in their free-speech area. To everyone’s amazement, each group was able to hand out their books in just over sixty minutes. Once all of the books were passed out, some of the brethren began to share the gospel and engage the students.
After all the books were handed out, Brother David Ross was interviewed for the Origin of Species outreach video. His interview highlighted the hope we all had in handing out this book. David reported how he proclaimed all through college that there was no God. David and his wife were both college trained, and influenced by the teaching of evolution. They had such a disdain for anything to do with God that they even made a promise, prior to marriage, that if either on of them began to believe in God, it was grounds for divorce. Some years later the Lord revealed himself to David. Immediately, David was overwhelmed at how much he saw God in creation. And in an attempt to learn more about God, David began to read the Bible. Within two weeks he read the entire Bible and was overwhelmed by the plan of salvation through Jesus Christ. Then for a week, David prayed about how he was going to tell his wife that he believed in God. Once David got up the courage, he went to his wife and admitted that he believed in God and trusted in Jesus Christ as his Savior. To his amazement, his wife was not upset at all, but instead was elated because the Lord had also revealed Himself to her. Since that time, they have faithfully sought God and worship him. Please pray for those students who received a book and that God will reveal the truth to them like He did for David and his wife.
California Road Trip
Tent City Outreach
The Las Vegas Outreach Team prayerfully seeks to find new ways of minister-ing and sharing the gospel to the world around us. There are several opportunities to reach those who are poor and homeless through local organizations in the community, such as the Las Vegas Rescue Mission. But after spending time with the homeless, it is clear that there is a section of homeless who no longer utilize the services found at these organizations. Our plan this year is to reach the homeless that will not go to these organizations, by going to them were they live.
The idea first came from our Brother Michael Cooper (AKA The Gypsy Preacher). Michael reported that he and his family worked with Gypsy churches across the US, ministering to the homeless for a few years. They often would get used sleeping bags and food to give to the homeless. Michael had worked in several large cities to give out the sleeping bags and said it worked best with used items. The used items worked best because the homeless were less likely to sell the items. Yet as much as his previous efforts had been a success, Michael also hoped to improve on the idea by having a verse from the Bible embroidered on the sleeping bag. It was agreed that this was a good plan but we needed the Lord to provide the embroiderer and some used sleeping bags. We decided to pray about this and seek the Lord for establishing this outreach.
A couple of weeks after the original idea was presented, I received a call from a brother by the name of Joel Bobrosky. He was calling to tell me that his wife wanted to join us for the Origin of Species Outreach. Then at the end of his call he said that he and his wife had an embroidery business on the side. Of course I asked if he had ever tried to embroider a verse on a sleeping bag. Although he had never tried, he thought it would be no problem.
Then a week later, while trying to find some sleeping bags, a man was located in Hawaii with thirty-five used sleeping bags. He had taken a bunch of youth out for three nights of camping and now had thirty-five used sleeping bags. These sleeping bags were originally $50 a piece, but he was willing to sell them for just $5.
Our plan for this outreach is to collect as many products that could be used by the homeless. will get as many of these products (sleeping bags, scarves, duffel bags) embroidered with a verse and ready to hand out on Christmas Eve. On December 24th at 9 am we will take these products along with food down to Tent City. We will hand out the items and then spend some time getting to know and share the gospel with those who are living in Tent City.
Please be in prayer for this outreach and consider if you can contribute either with support to purchase the items or to prepare food that can be handed out. We will also need some people who are willing to help distribute these items. Those who want to hand out items must be sure that they are able to lovingly look these people in their eyes and tell them how much you care about them. If you are interested in helping with food please contact Marty Gillespie at (702)340-9296. If you are interested in providing like used sleeping bags, scarves, duffel bags, and gloves please call Michael Cooper at (702)517-3059. If you are interested in passing out the items on December 24th then please call Doug Koch at (702)400-4115.
Get In The Battle
In the month of November 2009, the History Channel had a special series call-ed World War II in HD. I only caught a moment of the program as I was enjoying a cup of coffee in the ER break room. During that fifteen minutes break I got to see the video of battles as they were fought in Africa and the Pacific Ocean. It was interesting because the backdrop narration for the movie were letters that the GIs had written to family about the war. To my surprise, two of these men wrote virtually the same thing to their loved ones. Each talked about how they were just miles from the actual battle, but waiting to be sent into war. Both of these men complained that they were tired of the wait. They grumbled about the continual training and an anxiousness to be battle tested, even at the risk of death.
That comment seemed odd at first until I remembered a story that my friend had told me about his military service. He reported that in the 90’s he was a part of the Army for several years and was painfully close to seeing combat. Then in 2002, when the US invaded Iraq, my friend considered re-enlisting so he could finally get into battle. As my friend told me this story, I thought he was crazy especially since he was married at the time and making plans to start a family. What I didn’t understand was that in his mind, the only true soldier was one who had fought in battle. When I recently wrote to this friend to verify our conversation, he was quick to remind me that those feelings were very selfish and he was glad he never re-enlisted.
As I meditated over these thoughts, it became clear that this was a perfect analogy for the Christian life. Through the inspiration of the Holy Ghost the Apostle Paul wrote in Ephesians 6 that you, “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” The reason Paul wanted us to put on the armor of God was to fight in the battle against the devil and the forces of evil. In other word, the Apostle wants us to live like soldiers. Through a little more study, I discovered two more instances that Paul referred to his brethren Epaphroditus and Archippus as soldiers (Philippians 2:25 & Philemon 1:2). But Paul’s strongest plea to be like a soldier was given to Timothy. In II Timothy, Paul urges Timothy to, “Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him.” (II Timothy 2:3-4). As believers in Christ, we are called to please the Lord who sacrificed himself on the cross for our redemption. And as Christ traveled the countryside ministering and proclaimed the kingdom of God, we are also called to minister and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the world we live in.
Is this plea by the Apostle Paul taken seriously by those who claim to be Christians, and are the church leaders sounding the battle cry to the believers within their body? Over the past few weeks I have posed this question to several friends and they typically had the same response. There does not seem to be an anxiousness by Christians to minister to the world, or to be properly trained to speak the gospel to those who are caught in the trap of the devil (II Timothy 2:26).
Why are there so few people who are actually in the battle for God’s Kingdom on earth? Some people feel the problem is likely due to the fact that many people who claim to be a Christian are actually false converts. In the US Army when a soldier is absent from duty for thirty days, they are ruled a deserter and then face stiff penalties. If they are chronically labeled a deserter then they are removed and no longer recognized as a soldier. How many people within the American church have failed to train or share the gospel over the last thirty days? How many times have they heard the command of Christ called the Great Commission and still refused to prepare or enter the battle?
Tsecond The second reason for this problem may be due to the failure of the leaders within the church to declare the battle cry to the people. Christ showed the apostles over his three year ministry, how he wanted them to train and battle. Then the apostles were sent out to live their lives like they saw Christ live, and they did this even to the point of death. Even though we have not been trained by Christ, like the apostles, we can go to the scriptures and see what we must learn and believe and then to live for Christ.
So let us repent of our failure to properly battle, and pray for the wisdom on how to do the Lord’s will. Let us encourage those who we fellowship with to either be in training, or in the battle. And sound the battle cry to those who proclaim to be brethren, for the Kingdom of God is at hand.

Prayer Concerns
Pray that the Church of Las Vegas will experience personal revival amongst the brethren. That they will see repentance in all areas of sin, that the brethren will be overwhelmed by the presence of God, and people will be swept into salvation through the moving of the Holy Spirit.
Pray that the Lord will clarify when we are supposed to hold the Way of The Master class for the pre-teen and teens.
Pray that the Church of Las Vegas (all born-again believers in Las Vegas) will come together to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the people of Las Vegas, Nevada, United States, and the ends of the world.
Pray that the pastors over the Church of Las Vegas will be obedient in sending their flocks to go and preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
